An event sponsored by the Fair Trade Imitative with volunteers from Students for Sustainability hosted an event today, Saturday October 8th, at Bandelier Elementary school. Several vendors and bands with dozens of enthusiasts enjoyed the sunny weather, good music and an elaborate martial arts demonstration. The Fair Trade Initiative was there to build peoples’ consciousness about trade practices in developing countries and how the United States consumer can help improve those conditions. Several other groups also came out to educate and inform attendees.
One, a national organization with a charted at UNM, was present to inform attendees about world hunger issues while Students for Sustainability helped spread the message about developing more sustainable practices at the university and outside community. Fair Trade goods were being sold by Peace Craft and fair trade coffee was given out for free by the Telos House.
A good time was had by all and the weather couldn’t have been better. Groups there did a good job providing information about various global and community concerns and they will continue to work towards educating the public about these important issues.
